1. BACKGROUND
In accordance with Spanish legislation governing the use of cookies in relation to the provision of electronic communications services, as set out in Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 of 11 July on information society services and electronic commerce, we hereby inform you about the cookies used on the CHAIOSO SL website and the reason for their use.
2.- WHAT ARE COOKIES?
A cookie is a file that is downloaded to your computer when you access certain websites. Cookies allow a website, amongst other things, to store and retrieve information about a user’s or their device’s browsing habits and, depending on the information they contain and how you use your device, they may be used to recognise the user. Cookies are associated solely with an anonymous user and their computer or device and do not provide any references that would allow their personal data to be identified.
3.- TYPES OF COOKIES
3.1.- Depending on the entity managing them
a.- First-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal device from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
b.- Third-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
3.2.- By purpose
There are many purposes for the use of cookies. Depending on the purpose for which the data obtained through cookies is processed, some of these purposes may include:
a) Technical cookies: these are those that allow the user to navigate a website, platform or application and use the various options or services available on it, including those used by the publisher to enable the management and operation of the website and to activate its functions and services, such as, for example, controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted-access areas, remembering the items included in an order, completing the purchase process for an order, managing payment, monitoring fraud related to the security of the service, processing registration or participation requests for an event, counting visits for the purposes of billing for licences for the software on which the service operates (website, platform or application), using security features whilst browsing, storing content for the streaming of videos or audio, enabling dynamic content (for example, the loading animation of text or an image) or sharing content via social media.
Technical cookies shall be exempt from compliance with the obligations set out in Article 22.2 of the LSSI where they enable the provision of the service requested by the user, as is the case with the cookies listed in the preceding paragraphs. However, if these cookies are also used for purposes not covered by the exemption (for example, for behavioural advertising purposes), they shall be subject to those obligations.
b) Preference or personalisation cookies: these are cookies that allow information to be remembered so that the user can access the service with certain features that may differentiate their experience from that of other users, such as, for example, the language, the number of results to be displayed when the user performs a search, the appearance or content of the service depending on the type of browser through which the user accesses the service or the region from which they access the service, etc.
If it is the user themselves who chooses these features (for example, if they select the language of a website by clicking on the flag icon of the relevant country), the cookies will be exempt from the obligations of Article 22.2 of the LSSI as they are considered a service expressly requested by the user, provided that the cookies serve exclusively the selected purpose.
c) Analytics or measurement cookies: these are cookies that allow the controller to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked, including the quantification of the impact of advertisements. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms, with the aim of making improvements based on the analysis of how users utilise the service.
d) Behavioural advertising cookies: these are cookies that store information on user behaviour obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows a specific profile to be developed in order to display advertising based on that profile.
3.3.- Depending on how long they remain active
a) Session cookies: these are designed to collect and store data whilst the user is accessing a website. They are usually used to store information that is only relevant for the provision of the service requested by the user on a single occasion (for example, a list of purchased products) and are deleted at the end of the session.
b) Persistent cookies: these are cookies where the data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie controller, which may range from a few minutes to several years.
